City of Pune, India Strives to Better Understand Traffic Behaviour Using Bluecity Technology
Bluecity is pleased to announce that the city of Pune has chosen Bluecity’s lidar and AI-powered technology to aid in understanding behaviour of road users. The city will be implementing changes to its infrastructure and will be relying on the technology to help guide decision-making. Bluecity’s solution uses lidar and artificial intelligence to provide real-time multimodal data and can detect and identify all road users, including vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians.
Pune is a sprawling city in the western Indian state of Maharashtra. The city is interested in gaining insights into the behaviour of road users at one intersection where major changes are planned. The intersection is busy with many smaller arteries connecting to it. Construction is planned to widen and extend the road and the city wants to ensure it makes the best decisions in planning the upcoming changes. Following a demonstration of the technology by Bluecity and a local integrator, the city decided to install one lidar sensor at the intersection. In most cases, only one lidar sensor is required for full coverage of an intersection and installation is quick and easy.
The 3D high-resolution sensor is able to detect and classify traffic data in any weather or lighting condition and the data is captured anonymously so citizen privacy issues are avoided. The Bluecity iQ platform then analyzes the data and provides the city with advanced safety metrics and signal performance measures. Pune will be able to visualize traffic patterns and can download the data easily.
Following this pilot project, Pune will be looking at installing the technology at other intersections.
